Redeeming The Time

by Travis and Mickey Lowe on March 19, 2020

In light of current events, all of us will be spending a whole lot more time at home with our families. The world is not the same as it was a week ago. The phrase "Social distancing" has become part of everyday speech, and many of us have learned more about infectious diseases in a few days than we ever expected to know in a lifetime. In the Lowe home, we've spent much our time cleaning, rationing our pizza rolls, and watching terrible shark movies on amazon prime. No doubt you've found yourself in the same place; thankful that your college roommate still lets you use their Netflix account.

While it's tempting to be frustrated at the prospect of being, "Grounded" for now, we've done our best to see this as an opportunity. Amid all the silly time wasting we've had the chance to have meaningful conversations about what it means to follow Jesus in this cultural moment. Now more than ever, we can spend meaningful time with our families. That's something we should take advantage of. As we've talked, we have found ourselves continually asking this specific question:

What would the church look like if we took this season to invest meaningfully in the spiritual health of our families, spouses, and children?

Paul tells the church in Ephesians 5 to walk in wisdom and to make the best use of our time in the face of an evil world. What might obedience to that command look like now? For us, that has been using this time to catch up on reading, listening to podcasts, and uncovering worship music we hadn't heard before. We live in a unique cultural moment where there are an abundance of digital resources available to help us grow in our faith.

Our hope over at the Bay Life resources page is to help you to redeem this time spent inside and use it to grow in your knowledge of Christ. So with that in mind, we've compiled a list of books, music, and podcasts that you can access digitally from the comfort of your home. We'll be updating it weekly, in the hopes that you will join us in making the most of every opportunity, as we seek to bring the gospel of Jesus to bear on an anxious world.
